Colorado Vaca - Day 3

Monica woke up bright and early at 6 AM, which strangely felt like sleeping in after yesterday's 5:45.  Since she is in Sophia's bathroom that means both girls were up!  :).  We let Shaw sleep in while we had a delicious breakfast of scrambled eggs,  blueberries,  raspberries and milk followed by cartoons.  Seriously I think cable is absolutely ridiculous,  but I see the great benefit for kids!  So many cartoon channels!  As exclusive Netflix and Hulu Plus subscribers,  it is kind of fun not being able to control what exact episode comes next and to learn about new GOOD kids shows. I'm a big fan of Little Einsteins now!

We hit up a great trail, in which Monica discovered her love of throwing rocks into water,  and strange love and great fear of snow (or "no" as she calls it).   Sophia fulfilled her dream of finally getting an ice Castle.  We left lots of Olafs in our wake for any other Frozen hiking fans that may come after us.  :)

We drove up the mountain on log trails/logging trails/logger trails which were terrifying and lovely!  The view is truly breathtaking!  After heading back into town,  we stopped at our neighborhood park to play and have a snack.  There is an amazing skate park (nothing like what we have in KC) right next to the kid's park that was empty,  so we took the girls over there and they LOVED running and playing in it!  I had to keep a VERY close eye on Monica because there were very steep edges and,  as we all know,  she trends to trip over nothing and run off ledges!

Home for leftover chicken strips, fries and tomatoes.  Then Monica slept for about 1.5 hours (so did I!) While shaw and Sophia enjoyed some TV, and shaw drifted on the couch.  After wake up time, it was Sophia's favorite time of day - pool time! I discovered the last time we swam I put Sophia in a 2T suit, which naturally explained why it was so tight! Sophia had one incident in the pool where she tried to "blast off" the stairs and missed her intended target and went underwater.  Shaw's life guard training went into action and he rescued her from the dreaded water.  His instincts were so quick that her head barely went under.  Shaw's stitches, on the other hand, were not so easy off.  Luckily,  knowing my family (mostly Monica!) I had my band aids and ointment miraculously packed in the pool bag.  We needed to change his bandages anyway.  So new princess band aids were applied and the finger splints went into the sauna to dry.

We regrouped at the condo and got ready for dinner!  We found a little outdoor shopping (very Breckenridge and Vail- esque) to wander through and the Mexican restaurant was right next to it.  On the plus side,  they had a great kids climbing and playing toy right in front.  I'm sure it is the same all throughout Colorado, but it is so wonderful how everything outside encourages an active lifestyle!  We found a perfect mix store/cafe that had fabulous gelato, liquor, coffee and fudge.  Seriously if it was in KC it would be where we spent all of our time.  Add a Catholic bookstore and PERFECTO! Not to mention they ran a buy a pound of fudge,  get a 1/2 pound for free deal.  Is there really a question in that situation?  :)

The restaurant was okay.  We have learned that kid's menus are the pits. Sophia and Monica ate more of our fish and pork/bacon tacos then any of their lame quesadilla or corn dog.  We will never order off it again (said with great vigor and passion)!!  Except for Chik fil A of course!

We quickly ran through safeway for a few things, and stopped by a nearby lake that was specifically for kids to fish.  We just walked around,  but again there are rock walls and stone frogs for the girls to climb (and stones for Monica to trip on). We all split a fourth pound of fudge (if that isn't moderation,  I don't know what is!) and returned to the condo homestead.

The girls were asking for snacks right when we got in the car,  so we decided to have berries and water on the deck at home.  This part of Colorado had been experiencing warmer than usual weather this week, but the deck is in perfect shade.  It looks right over the evergreens so there is lots of animal life! We saw three magpies and a young fox!  Shaw and Sophia were able to get very close to the fox.  Monica was super excited,  and when asked,  "What does a fox say Monica?" She will quickly respond "Ring a ding ding ding ding ding!", finishing up the beloved diddy.

After another (!) snack of cheese and water,  Twas finally bedtime!  Sophia is sleeping beautifully here. She hasn't come out once tonight!  The Lodge has a great selection of movies, and you can rent 2 at a time for free,  so we are hunkering down with drinks,  fudge and a silly movie tonight and watching the stars.  Whew!
